National Grid has a constant need for power flexibility to balance the electricity grid when the demand required by customers is not equal to the power generated on the system.

When unforeseen supply or demand is put on the network, National Grid’s control room needs to take action. Battery storage facilities are able to react automatically in a fraction of a second to Grid’s instructions making them the perfect technology to help keep the ‘stressed’ network in balance.

The abundant onshore and offshore wind resource in Scotland means that a high proportion of the UK’s renewable energy is now generated in the north of the country but is needed in the more densely populated South. This imbalance has led to significant issues with stability and constraints on the electricity transmission grid in Scotland.

GridCodePower has developed a portfolio of power generation and battery storage facilities across Scotland which are sited to directly address this increasing need for flexible generation and electricity storage.
